Wonderful vintage kerosene pressure lantern made by Petromax from Germany in 1950-1960. Is made of chrome plated brass and generates around 250 WATS. Works with kerosene fuel and has a automatic preheating system.
Pressure lanterns burn kerosene vapor, not liquid, so this must be preheated with a flame in order to heat the kerosene so that it vaporizes and causes the mantle to glow. Some of the earlier models have a small cup inside that you fill with denatured alcohol, then light it with a match. When the alcohol is almost burned out, you open the fuel knob and the lantern starts. This lantern in special has just an automatic preheating system who sprays kerosene on burner to make the hitting process faster. (Preheating system needs some work in this case )
This kind of lanterns was used in all the major expeditions all over the wold in the last 100 years. Dimensions: 12 1/2 " height X 5 1/2 " diameter.
