SOLD This is a late 19th century pocket Balloonist Barometer Altimeter compendium or weather station consisting in a silver altimeter dial, a small thermometer and detachable mother of pearl compass. The barometer scale goes from 15-31 inches and the altimeter scale ranges from zero to 20,000 feet adjusted by a bezel with a dialing knob. The thermometer shows the temperature in Fahrenheit degrees and goes from zero to 130. The wonderful Singer's patent mother of pearl compass has a on and off lock on the side and shows the direction of magnetic North with a little help of small taps on the side.
The body of the device is made from gilded brass with minimal wear and tear. The whole device comes in a well fitted leather and wooden case. Unfortunately the locking system was damaged over time. The device was most likely made by one of the British scientific instruments maker from that period.
What makes this altimeter rare is the high altitude range of the dial which is very hard to find for such a small device.
The device is still showing differences in the barometric pressure and altitude variation.
