SOLD This is an excellent pocket sundial made in France in the early 1800's during the Napoleonic Wars. The device was made to be used between latitudes 40 and 60 degree - this information is engraved on the hour dial and on the adjustable blade gnomon with a bird looking pointer inspired by the antique Butterfield sundials. The compass face has French cardinal points and a side locking system. The case is made of brass with nice patina. Dimensions of the dial: 55 mm diameter and 10 mm height. The combination of four metals, copper color gnomon, brass and silver compass face and blue compass needle makes the device unique and very attractive.
