SOLD Featured below is a rare example of genuine pocket sextant or "box sextant" used by explorers for navigation and in this case by the British Army in WW1. This piece was made in the early 1918 by the well-known scientific instrument maker Troughton & Simms from London. The sextant as several fine adjustments: arm adjusting knob, magnifying glass, two mirrors, adjustable green and red filters and a silvered vernier scale with very fine markings (0-140). The sextant made of anodized brass with minimal wear and tear and nice patina.The original leather case is in very good condition with the name of the original owner and broad arrow sign present on the side. The device is functional, the reading can be taken through the adjustable peephole. Dimensions: 70 mm diameter and 40 mm height.
