SOLD Below is a fine example brass equinoctial sundial made in France in the last half of 19th century. The device features include: an hour scale with 15 minutes divisions a delicate gnomon, a foldable latitude arc with divisions from 0-70 degrees and a mahogany base plate with two wonderful brass locks. The condition of this sundial is very good with some oxidation and wear and tear due to age. Dimensions (of dial): 75mm diameter and the mahogany case is 105mm x 105mm x 35mm. Interesting about this sundial, has a manufacture defect, the compass face North sign is pointing towards lower left corner of the case. To have a accurate time reading the compass North hand needs to be pointed towards the case hinges. This sundial makes a very nice addition to your collection of early navigation or time keeping instruments.
