SOLD This is an excellent example of a fruit wood compass made in Germany in the late 1700s through mid-1800s designed for travelers and settlers and introduced in US by outfitters and early explorers. This specific item has the makers name Negelein above the North sign and the magnetic declination arrow pointed to 18 degrees West. Each device is unique in its own way due to the attractive printed paper dial and custom hand painted compass rose.
