SOLD Featured below is a nice example of impressive antique Japanese compass made in 1800’s in Meiji Period. The compass is made of lacquered wood with a big mother of pearl color dial, a nice blue compass needle in a form of an arrow and is covered with a double glass top. The inside glass is holed in place by a bezel made by a brass twisted wire and the top glass cover who looks a bit newer has a dome shape. The compass is surrounded by a narrow red ring with 12 Chinese characters (directions of the Earthly Branches). The size is much bigger than the average compass: diameter 115 mm and height 70 mm.
