Sold-Featured below is a scarce example of a small antique compass most likely made in early 1800’s in Edo Period Japan. The compass is made of lacquered wood with a small dial and a nice blue compass needle. The inside glass is locked in place by a bezel made by a twisted brass wire. The glass has a few chips but the hand is very sensitive. The compass face has 12 Chinese characters (directions of the Earthly Branches). Dimensions of the compass: diameter 26 mm and height 11 mm.
