Sold. Here is a fine example of a rare sterling silver long neck compass with porcelain dial made in 1819 with the hallmarks of the maker (Thomas Harper London) present inside of the case. The compass has a high-quality and sensitive bar needle with a jeweled top and is covered by a slightly domed glass. The locking system situated behind the long neck can be activated by sliding the small level left or right. The locking system or the transit lock is very sophisticated and consist in several springs and levels situated on the back of the dial.Diameter of the compass is 33 mm and the height is 12 mm.The device comes with a small wood and brass display representing a boat steering wheel made in Norway.
