Featured below is a rare early example of genuine pocket sextant or "box sextant" used by explorers for navigation. This piece was made in the late 1800’s early 1900’s most likely in England. The anodized brass cylindrical body has several fine adjustments: index arm, magnifying glass, two mirrors, and a bigger than usual finely engraved silvered vernier scale going from 0 to 180. The vernier scale of the most of the pocket sextants goes just to 130-140 degrees. The sextant has a nice retractable and screw in small sight telescope with a extra red filter cover. The two retractable red and green filters from inside are missing. The reading can be made also through the sliding peep hole. Dimensions: 75 mm diameter and 40 mm height. Excellent addition to your navigational instruments collection.
