SOLD This is an excellent example of a floating card compass made around Civill War Era by F. W. Lincoln Jr. & Co Boston. Frederick Walker Lincoln, Jr. was a well known scientific instruments maker in Boston having the business between 1839-1883 and also was elected as Mayor of Boston between 1857-1864. This compass is a small version of the nautical compasses used by sailors on a small vessel. This particular piece has a brass case and wonderful paper floating card and a brass top. Dimensions: 75 mm diameter and 35 mm height.
