This is an excellent example of a floating card compass made in England in late 1800’s early 1900’s. The compass has a smaller than average face (3 inch) and unusual floating card (black and white face) for easy navigation in the night. Dimensions of the mahogany case: 5 inches x 5 inches x 4 inches.
