SOLD Featured below is a rare early example of genuine pocket sextant or "box sextant" used by explorers for navigation. This piece was made most likely in the first half of 1800’s by the well known scientific instruments maker William Elliott London. The one a kind lacquered brass cylindrical body has several fine adjustments: index arm, magnifying glass, two mirrors, and a silvered vernier scale with very fine markings (0-150). The ridding Is made by through a pip hole with an adjustable dark filter. Comes in original mahogany wood and blue velvet case. The brass case has some minimal wear and tear due to the age. Dimensions: 78 mm diameter and 35 mm height.
