This is an excellent example of a floating card compass made in New York by C. D Durkee & Co New York in early 1900’s. It is a small version of the nautical gimbaled compasses used by sailors on a small vessel. This particular piece has a mahogany case and wonderful paper floating card (80mm diameter).
