SOLD. Rare pocket compass with brass pressfit case. This type of compass was customary made in Europe, this one in particular in Bavaria region - estimated between 1700s through mid 1800s. This was meant to be used by travelers and early settlers and introduced in United States by outfitters and early explorers. The compass has maker's name Stockert present above the North sign - a compass maker family with a extraordinary history in producing compasses for 250 years. Each device is unique in his own way due to the printed paper dial and custom hand painted compass rose. The condition of the compass is excellent. The compass measures 45mm diameter by 15mm height.
