Scarce Westlake 26" Aluminum and Wood Submarine US Navy (Tarpon SS-175), which was offered as a working scale kit in the 1950's. This submarine features, heavy duty spring motor, aluminum hull parts and adjustable dive planes, plastic deck gun, wooden deck, nice combination of brass rail posts and coper wire, brass hatch covers, portholes, propellers and shafts. The submarine was completely refurbished, the aluminum hull body was repainted in black, the wooden deck has a nice navy gray color, the coil spring and the gear system was greased, the original plastic conning tower was missing and a new tower was scratch built from copper plate and balsa wood. the tower has two periscopes port starboard lights and a central running light , one one of the periscopes acts as a switch for the lights. A small round battery is hidden in the conning tower. The unusual clockwork tubular engine still works, and is activated by a switch on the back deck. The name and markings of the submarine was painted with watch luminous paint to glow in the dark and under the black light. Dimensions: 26 in x 4 in x 5 in.
