Scarce example of an antique four draw silver plate and enamel monocular signed "Berge London Late Ramsden". Matthew Berge was an accomplished scientific instruments maker from late 1700’ early 1800’s and worked for the famous London instrument maker, Jesse Ramsden (1735–1800), and took over the firm after Ramsden's death. The monocular is a Galilean style telescope with a 17 mm eye piece and 42 mm object lens. The monocular is clear and has 2X power. The condition is excellent for age, the enamel covered barrel has a few chips. The telescope comes with a Morocco leather and green velvet lining case from that era. Dimensions: 40mm closed and 117mm opened.
